Where We Work in India
The Dindigul District is located in southern India, where agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for over 2.15 million people. However, this region faces severe social and economic challenges, including labor migration, gender inequality, and limited access to education.
Marginalized communities, such as disadvantaged castes and tribes, make up over 20% of the population. They often live in harsh conditions and suffer from systemic discrimination. Women, in particular, face wage inequality and poor working conditions, especially in agriculture and the textile industry.
Gender inequality is a critical issue, with many girls dropping out of school after puberty and women being excluded from decision-making processes. Child labor and exploitative practices, such as the Marriage Assistance Scheme, further exacerbate the region’s socio-economic difficulties.
Our work spans across five key areas - Athoor, Dindigul, Nilakottai, Oddanchatram, and Sannarpatti - where we implement programs that aim to address these pressing needs. Our initiatives focus on empowering vulnerable populations through sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and other efforts to improve livelihoods.
